At Jack Colton's suggestion and with his permission, I am posting the contents of a private message. Jack has access to both INTC and MRVC boxes and I had asked him just how good MRVC's boxes were. Is there anything obviously, missing or wrong with their technology, etc. Here is his reply.

My engineering packet pushers have played around with them. We do not see anything
technically wrong with them. As a matter of fact, the ones I played with were great! I
want to put a 2048 in my demo cabinet. Nothing is wrong with NBase except the
name. It is not CISCO or BAY.
In Nov and DEC we sold about 120 Bay 350Ts, while on the shelf sat the NBase
equivalents. It's the name, not the product that keeps it from selling here. Do you have
any idea how many startup companies and mature companies have brought out
switching products in the last year? I can't keep up with them! I am sure most MIS /
LAN managers can't keep up with all of the new entries either. I am sure that some of
the others are very good, but who has time for a "Me too" product evaluation - That's
what keeps PC magazine in business - then they always rate whoever advertises the
most as editors choice - even when other products have better technical merit. Nbase
products will win the Comnet Product showcase, because everyone gets an equal
break in that evaluation. But until NBase gets a US style marketing guy (like me -
wink;wink) to do a little sky writing for them, the MIS manager's not going to risk his
neck to save a few bucks.

I just got an email while typing this. Let me call my office.
