A few articles from The Sydney Morning Herald:smh.com.au ZIP DRIVE GETS ZIPPIER IOMEGA Iomega will showcase its newest personal storage products at PC IT 98. Visitors to Iomega's colourful stand 1213 will be able to see the ZipPlus, Jaz 2Gb and Clik! drives. Available now, the ZipPlus builds on the success of the innovative Zip 100Mb personal and portable storage, which, with 12 million drives sold, has become the industry's de facto "super floppy" file storage medium. The ZipPlus uses the same 100Mb cartridges but delivers up to 40 per cent faster performance in Windows 95. An AutoDetect feature allows the drive to be used with either SCSI or parallel printer ports (so the one unit can be shared between PC and Mac machines). Other additions include an on-off switch and a powerful set of bundled multimedia tools, while a lightweight universal power supply replaces the Zip "brick". CNF Peripherals will also be at the Iomega stand with their range of InnerBay Zip drives to fit most notebooks from Compaq, IBM and Toshiba. Iomega is also offering sneak previews of its two hot storage solutions for 1998. The Jaz 2Gb boasts double the capacity of the original 1Gb Jaz, with a stunning 2Gb per removable cartridge due to improved disk surfaces and new head technology. It is also faster, with on-board cache and an average sustained transfer rate of 7.35Mb per second compared with the Jaz's 5.4Mb per second. This makes the Jaz 2Gb ideal for professional users with high storage overheads and needing high-speed access - a field including desktop publishing, multimedia authoring, CAD/CAM work, graphic design, and non-linear video editing. Because the Jaz 2Gb can read and write to original 1Gb Jaz cartridges, users can enjoy backwards compatibility and an alternative lower-priced storage option. Both the original Zip and Jaz drives will be retained in the line-up, offering more affordable solutions to both the personal and professional markets. On public show in Australia for the first time will be Clik!, the breakthrough low-cost storage option for portable consumer devices. Each tiny Clik! disk holds 40Mb of data and will use drives fitted at factory-level into devices such as digital cameras, hand-held computers, personal communications units and printers. Pocket-sized drives for accessing Clik! disks from your PC are also planned.smh.com.au At the Iomega stand (1213), PDS Mobile I.T. will demonstrate the InnerBay Zip drive, which slots a 100Mb Zip drive into the removable CD-ROM drive of major brand notebooks without the need for extra cables, adaptors or batteries. The newest module adds Zip storage to Toshiba's Tecra 750 and 750DVD notebooks. Bundled software include FileFit, for splitting files greater than 100Mb over multiple zip disks, and RecordIT, which allows the recording of audio directly onto a Zip disk for duplication or editing. Other InnerBay-compatible notebooks include members of Toshiba's Satellite, Tecra series and many IBM ThinkPad and Compaq LTE models. Linda
