Kieth..BTW did you notice PC Connection went public today? I hope there will be a $499 CPQ. It won't be sold at a loss so there will be a buck in it for CPQ. The truth is most consumers don't need the 100mgz bus with 8 gig and yada, yada, yada. It's amazing to me that CPQ can be a price leader with such a terrible business model that includes a 4-5 weeks for delivery of parts. If that were a real issue wouldn't the real efficient box makers already have the $499 box on the market?

Kieth,
This is a memory test for me. I recall that some PCs designed for the education market with minimum components were to be sold for $499. The target market was schools. In fact, think the PCs have to be connected to a server to operate as they don't have floppy or CD drives. Can anyone else remember this? Are you a teacher or purchasing officer for a school?

Keith,

<< I was caught in the crossfire when the disk drive makers when to war. I would prefer to stay out of one. That industry has never recovered. I am beginning to see disturbing similarities >>

Me too! See my post from last week:

I was blind to the possibility that a leader such as SEG in the DD industry could be brought to its knees by price war and oversupply problems. I just hope we are not going that route.
