Damien,

I don't disagree with your comments in general. My point is that they have earned what they have achieved by growing into a powerhouse. No one 'handed' them a monopoly - they competed for it and won by being vastly superior.

I was with Intel for 8+ years, and we accomplished a lot by being smarter, working harder, and some say by being lucky. However, the government never gave INTC anything, and now 10 years later that Intel has 80+% of the marketplace it peeves me to think of the government maybe saying they should break up INTC because it is so dominant and 'controls' the market. While MFST's story is somewhat different, I believe that if they don't treat people right - with both superior products and pricing, then someone else will grow up and slythe them.
Look what happened to AOL when there service when downhill/stopped. People left in droves - maybe your most valuable point is that if there weren't others around, there would have been no alternatives to AOL. I guess that I just can't see that happening in my lifetime.

I do understand that MSFT has become so vital and omnipotent that it is scary, and they are a fierce competitor with predatory tendancies, just as INTC is, but the question is have they violated a law - not just peeved many.

regards,

Ed
