Paul,

Is this the price aggressiveness that CPQ is worried about?
This is good news for DELL. Better product for less money!

The news on CPQ is that they are experiencing pricing pressures this quarter and when they reduced their prices last week a number of other companies followed suit.

I did another set of comparisons between CPQ, GTW and DELL today for Dimension like desktop systems.

GTW versus DELL:

192 MB Memory
300MHZ PII
ZIP Drive
CDROM
FLOPPY
NVIdia $MB AGP Graphics
19" Monitor

GTW=3221
DELL=3037

Note: DELL uses the more expensive ECC SDRAM on configurations
greater than 64MB.

Conclusion: DELL gives you more for 5% less money than DELL.

Presario 4850:

300Mhz PII
6.5GB HD
2X DVD
ACP Graphics
17" Monitor

56KModem
3Yr/3 yr /1 yr carry in service
MS MONEY, Works, encarta

Zip Drive

CPQ = 2,792
DELL = 2,530

Notes: The CPQ system limits memory to 80MB while DELL goes up to 384 with error correcting memory.

Conclusion: DELL gives you more for less money than CPQ on similar systems.
