Frank: Thanks for that. Good when lots of people call. I sometimes feel embarrassed calling IR so frequently! And I'm way too meek!

BTW who is he in " talked to the company also and he said they had a bid..."?

I know IR has Diana and Elizabeth and someone they hired a few months ago. Don't know the name.

Well at least LSI has a bid out. That's good news. I'm not good at asking blunt questions but the fact that you did is good! Of course it would have been nicer if LSI had a reply. When did you call?

About DCAM: It's a given that LSI has a huge winner here. I take it for granted now! Well over 50% of design wins and supposedly a year lead over the rest of the field here. Growth rates of 60-100% over the next 5 years. LSI is golden here. Actually in 1996 I recall LSI saying they had wrapped up a number of the top 10 and were signing up more. FWIW I think they may have as many as 6-8 of the top 10 in this area.

To me of the 5 biggies: DCAM, DVD, GSM, FC, and something else I forget

DCAM will be huge for LSI (100% probability)
GSM will be huge for LSI - likely best design implementation (80% probability)
FC is and will be huge for LSI (100% probability)

That leaves the big boy DVD - I think LSI will do really well here - I just fear the c word - competition the longer it is delayed. However we will see soon enough in the marketplace to see how DVD is accepted. My sense is that it will do very well and LSI will shine. I don't want to give full marks until I see those PCs flying out the window.

So I'll just say DVD - 70% prob. - marks deducted for delays implying greater competition.

I think the next big boy is CDMA - will wait to see how LSI's chip stacks up against the competition.

About asking analysts to press the buy button: Ain't gonna happen. They've been burned before so many times by LSI that they won't bite. And I suspect that even if analysts were to bite, market will not at least initially. Call it the "we don't believe the hype" or "first show me the money" attitude. And that's why this boy has been buying. Figure the party is coming and makes sense to buy at this stage. Even though the party may take time to develop there is a change at LSI and it's for the good.
