The negative prophecy would be true, if among other things, the short interest wasn't making new higher levels. The bull/bear cycles over the last year+ has been 20 bull weeks followed by 9 bear weeks. It seems that for every AMZN or YHOO short that covers, a new short takes their place at the new higher level. Sure there are short term corrections or consolidations, but it has really taken a cycling into one of these 9 week bear patterns to produce the best short gains, IMO. If that theory hold water, time will tell. Maybe Asia will help break this cycle, but until something massive occurs I doubt this will change before the latest cycle runs its course. Where are we now? I'm guessing not even 1/2 way into the latest bull cycle. Which I surmise to mean, buy on dips. Any short position I initiate in the next 2 months will probably last for 2 days or less and only started when short term momentum and %R make peaks. Now I know there are a bunch of different reasons why folks short, but the short covering mid bull cycle sure fuel and fan the fire.
