Mike, I left the secret decoder ring I use for your more mysterious posts on the aluminum folding chair at the local pagan community center. Unfortunately, the beautiful young witch running the ceremonies said I had to take EVERYTHING off, including my jewelry, to do the pagan moon dance just right. Of course, after it was over, we ran all over the neighborhood scaring the young children half to death, even the poor, pitiful ones with only one parent, and if any of them knew how to read, I am sure we frightened them so much they don't remember even one, single-syllable word. Now they are all homeless, and I'm not a bit sorry, okay, because I am not a Christian. IS THAT CLEAR????

Who are your opponents, anyway, Mike? Are you talking about chess or investing? Seriously, your posts are so oblique sometimes.

I am afraid I don't have much to say about The English Patient. It is the kind of movie that I have to see several times to get all the layers of meaning. The first time I see a complex film, I try to enjoy it on a sensual level--the scenery, the colors, the sounds, the moods it evokes. Then I go back and watch and listen more carefully for subtle nuances. There were several things about it that I didn't understand, but I do plan to see it again.

Sorry I can't really answer your questions. I did see McCabe and Mrs. Miller recently, a movie that I had missed when it came out umpteen years ago. I thought it was one of the best movies I have ever seen. Are you familiar with it?
