I'd be interested in submitting a similar letter. I can call Dell and ask the same questions you asked.. which would make a similar letter truthful (if I get the same answers from DELL)
What does everyone think of submitting a generic letter that states what scotsman posted here?

on a lighter note, this is Bill Gates' wish, considering all the current events (He probably had this wish today during the senate meeting)

Scotsman, I was thinking of you when Senator Hatch asked Michael Dell why customers could not get Netscape preinstalled on ordered computers. I had read earlier in the morning the same comment from you. I admire your action to write a letter to Senator Hatch. Your point is very appropriate. For many people installing and deinstalling software is a mystery. Microsoft certainly counts on this in its marketing strategy. It was also interesting how easy Bill Gates says it is to deinstall IE (only takes 5 minutes) after all the hoopla in the antitrust case where they initially stonewalled on deinstalling IE saying it would cripple Windows OS.
I was taken aback by Michael Dell's answer--which to me was first a denial, and then simply was absurd. Hatch had something like six people call, and all Dell representatives said Netscape could not be installed because of relations with Microsoft. Everyone seemed to know this but Michael Dell who later retrenched to something like "only large corporate customers if they insist" will get netscape preinstalled. And Dell prides itself on giving the customer what they want--ha, ha. He may be rich, and Dell may be doing great, but he and Faust have a lot in common.

All the best,
Michael

re: sap/r3 benchmarks... any numbers? Sun and Oracle continue to demonstrate significant performance and scalability advantages based on our SAP R/3 benchmarks....

is this true?
btw:
Visa said the Java Open Platform will allow banks to use approved operating systems of their ****own choice.**** Java is the programming
language developed by Sun Microsystems Inc (SUNW - news) that can be used on any hardware.

Visa expects to announce a multi-function platform later this year that will permit the loading and changing of applications as needed.
