Last week when asked about the kind of revenue
they could expect to pull in, Damian felt
confident that they could eventually meet and
exceed the Fred Meyer Challenge. I may be
wrong but I think the Fred Meyer Challenge
is one event held every year in August. Albeit
an event that is heavily sponsored with 12 years
under its belt, I feel that the Classic Series
with several planned events per year has the
ability to eventually far outpace that event.
With the immense growth and popularity of golf
as of late, many sponsors are locking in 3-5
year deals with the already existing series
leaving some otherwise interested companies
shut out of the game. The Classic Series was
set up to take advantage of that void. Lets
face it, its all about money and how to best
position yourself in the flow of it. A well run
series of events could capture some highly
lucrative sponsorship deals. With 3,6,8, and
10 planned events per year for 1998 - 2001
respectively, that adds up pretty quickly!
Depending on the demand for such sponsorship
arrangements from interested companies, it
looks like they are flexible to the idea of
adding more events as this snowballs. Below is an
excerpt from thier business plan on the website.

The Classic Series offers a high profile golf sponsorship opportunity for these potential sponsors and will be aggressively marketing major sponsorships to companies that fall into this category.

By the same token, there are currently only two sponsors on the PGA Tour with contracts of 5 years or more. Most companies are more comfortable with 3-year deals, and this fact may also serve to
strengthen the appeal of the Classic Series in the eyes of major sponsors in markets where the series is also represented.

Similarly, the increased purses will result in an increase in price for all sponsorship positions with PGA Tour events. The Company believes that it will also be able to secure contracts with sponsors based on its ability to provide high profile, major sponsorship positions for the same investment as is required for a mid-level sponsorship with little or no exposure on the PGA Tour.

Finally, the mandated increase in purse sizes by the PGA Tour will be significantly harder for some events to achieve than others. It is expected that cities that have played host to Tour events for years
may lose the events if they are unable to support the increased purses. The Classic Series will be in a position to meet the existing demand for world class professional golf at a more affordable level for major sponsors.

This situation, should it occur to any degree, could fuel a rapid
increase in the number of events in the Classic Series.

ps...these guys know damm well they have what it takes
to make that situation a reality! Remember...the initial
business plan for the Classic Series was written by
David Marr Senior...like theres a chance in hell that
this guy was fooling himself.
