Re: Fujitsu thingie

Can you say price dumping?

Isn't that what drove the asian economy into a depression? These guy's took massive loads of debt with the knowledge of the govermnment stepping in in times of crisis. When things got nastie and governments were forced to let the weak ones go, you saw institutions that have been around since the turn of the century close their doors. Although, to be fair, this may not be the case for fujitsu. Nontheless, price dumping to gain market share looks like what is taking place in the DD industry.

General Stuff....

Just receive Ingrams top sellers list for Jan4 to Jan 31.
In the mass storage category the number 1 spot is the Parallel port Zip, and in the number 4 spot is the ATAPI Zip drive with the top five items reported.
In the accessories category Zip 100 mb cartridge is 1st spot with CDR's coming in the 2nd , 4th and 7th spots with a total of 8 items reported.

Just a couple of comments on Fujitsu. Some ten months ago this company came into the market place with the intent of moving into the hard drive business and they did in a big way. A statement from Fujitsu about the hard drive business,

''Our goal is to be one of the top three manufacturers,'' said Larry Sanders, Fujitsu Computer Products' president and chief executive. ''We are bringing more capacity on line.'' '' We have substantial growth goals, '' Sanders said.

This company is a kick butt company and IMO they will own one of the top three spots in the hard drive business. It bodes well for IOM that Fujitsu is including Zip as standard in their new LifeBook notebook computers.

This type of inclusion confirms reliability and durability more than any testimony of the reliability or unreliability of the Zip drive. These companies can't afford to include substandard faulty equipment in their products and go to great lengths to protect their profits.
