Michael Dell's Testimony

Joe,

I believe that he emphasized that standardization within the industry has been market driven; is one of the key factors in DELL's growth; establishes common hardware and software platforms; simplifies product development and service; and due to these factors, actually drives consumer prices down, making technology available to a broader consumer base.

Bottom line: IMO he strengthened the position of both MSFT and Netscape (he was seated immediately to the left of Netscape's Jim Barksdale) without alienating either of them OR the government. Probably his testimony was more beneficial to MSFT.

But you are quite correct... he did seize the opportunity do get in a very nice (and free, may I add) national advertising spot.

Regards, 3.

Joe - I thought Michael's comments and presentation at the hearing was extremely well done. He was the most professional of all of them!

His comments that 'the marketing analysis' showed that customers wanted Explorer and they were happy to be able to provide it. Of course they could have Netscape if they wanted that.

Message was: we're doing what our customers want, we are in touch with our customers, we provided them with the best machines and the best value.!!!!!
