Bay Networks Awarded Highest Scores by Infoworld Test Center For Response to Year 2000 Issues

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 1998--

Received 'Three Champagne-Glass' Score For Year 2000

Strategy and Comprehensive Year 2000 Web Site

Bay Networks(R), Inc. (NYSE: BAY) recently earned Infoworld's top rating of 'three champagne-glasses' for its detailed information on Year 2000 issues on the company's web site.

To assist its customers and field sales force in understanding and assessing the looming Year 2000 challenges, Bay Networks has developed comprehensive information resources on its web site. This includes information on Bay Networks' Product Compliance Policy, strategy and test plan, product readiness test results, and answers to some frequently asked questions.

Criteria for selection to the three glasses of bubbly rating for the Infoworld Test included; providing readily available information on Year 2000 issues on the web site; a definition of Year 2000 compliance and/or readiness, and a detailed product by product statement about how its products fit this definition. In addition, for products that do not meet this criteria, the vendor must outline the upgrade path so that the product works with post-1999 dates.

"Bay Networks is very pleased with the recognition we've received for our ongoing Year 2000 efforts," said Bill Hawe, vice president of architecture, Bay Networks. "Bay Networks is committed to helping customers deal with the Year 2000 challenge and making sure that our products are Year 2000 compliant."

To help customers deal with the Year 2000 challenge, Bay Networks has established a Year 2000 Product Compliance Policy which states that the company is committed to testing all applicable products and providing Year 2000 compliant products available for sale by Jan. 1, 1998. The policy conforms to the requirements established by the U.S. Government for the acquisition of information technology products in its final rule effective as of Oct. 21, 1997.
