Wow Stephanie, that's kind of like asking for the "short course" on how to be a doctor. There are some good books on the subject, Mr. Murphy's [ no, not THAT "Murphy", vbg ] is perhaps the current favourite. There might be a thread on TA [ Technical Analysis ] which is what the study of ".. gaps and things" is about here on SI. I'm afraid it's not an easy, two-paragraph explanation, but you seem to be someone who welcomes intellectual challenges, so I know you're up to learning this stuff. The concepts are fairly easy to grasp, it's the interpretation that's the ".... art, not science". Happy Technician-ing, if I may coin a word.

Stephanie: Call up a daily chart on ACCY. When the stock went from .20 to .60 in a couple of days, there were a couple of distinct "gaps" on the way up, meaning the market makers raised the bid/ask so fast that the stock jumped in price.

Usually when a stock gaps up like that, it eventually comes back and fills the gap. That is what hapenned with ACCY. Both gaps at about .25 and .35 eventually were filled.
