Seems like the Hutchinson news is having more effect on Innovex than HTCH. Now that RDRT is announcing, I expect we will continue to drift down. Seems like there is much more negative news available than good.

These new GMR drives from IBM will not help INVX as I'm sure they will use either IBM's internally developed TSA, or HTCH's TSA.

If you call INVX, could you ask them about new technology that allows MR heads to be tested without first being attached to a suspension. I wonder how many wire sets will not be needed if bad heads can be weeded out without first attaching them to a suspension an taking a reading from a spinning test disk?

You might also question them on the Hutchinson statement of falling suspension demand. It could well be that Hutchinson is facing new competition in suspensions and part of their demand fall is due to lost business.

Since you raise the question of GMR, you might ask them about GMR programs at the various drive companies and what progress they have made, if any, to get design wins with GMR. It is early to tell, but GMR is where TSA may be the winner. Still, should worst case happen, it would probably be 2 years before GMR is widely used. Look at how long it has taken MR to be accepted.

Any news on the flip chip front?

Regards,

Mark
