<< Yahoo's fundamental problem, as I see it, is this. If it is ever demonstrated that there is actual money to be made selling ads on the internet then Murdoch/Time-Warner/Disney-ABC/Infinity Broadcasting etc will move in and the competition will be fierce >>

The internet moves so fast that those old sloths won't be able to keep up with YHOO. They wouldn't know how to run a website. YHOO has the experience and the viewership and it is going to be tough to pull people away.

I know there is a bunch of hype about LCOS and XCIT but I never use those sites. YHOO got me hooked first and I won't leave as long as they keep bringing out new features. I am comfortable navigating their site and I don't want to have to learn a new system.

I never go to AOL's site either. I don't use their browser and I never use any of their features except instant messages. I go straight to the internet and YHOO.

phb, I agree that the real media giants are potential competition, but it is interesting to note that MSNBC, last week I think, said that they are scaling back entertainment content to focus more on information content as the demand seems better for the latter. Seems to me that this means that they will be focused more on directly competing with Yahoo (at least the parts of Yahoo that I am familiar with).
