IBM+AMD?

IMO, AMD can't keep the production up is because of the yield and design margins are not as good as Intel.

IBM has its reputation on making IC. It may help on process side but not design side. Compaq's move, on the other hand, can be a signal to Intel. Compaq may again, jerpodize its relationship with Intel.

In the long run, Intel still has 50%+/- margin as a last resort to bury AMD.

Barry,

In 1982 IBM bought 12% of INTC and about the same of ROLM telecom. Later IBM moved their position up to slightly over 20%. They sold in the early 90's when they had a use/need for the money. As I remember, they bought at about 20, which is 5 or 6 splits ago.

regards,

Ed
