There are games which can be played with cache arrays to avoid this problem. If a defect in the L2 array is detected, either the entire L2, or just the defective portion of it, can be disabled. i.e. The CPU might have a 120K L2 instead of a 128K L2, if an 8K portion of the L2 is disabled.
