MINNEAPOLIS, March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The DVD version of "Air Force One" hit stores across the country on Feb. 10. In its first week of release, the movie nationally moved into the number-one sales spot, according to VideoScan, which says it captures 75 to 80 percent of DVD sales nationwide. Forty-two percent of VideoScan's reported sales were made at Musicland Stores Corporation , principally at its Suncoast Motion Picture Company, Media Play and Sam Goody stores.

Musicland Stores Corporation (NYSE: MLG) also captured approximately 40 percent of all sales for the top 10 DVDs the week of February 10-14. VideoScan's top 10 included "Air Force One," "Dante's Peak," "Contact," "Crimson Tide," "The Rock," "Sling Blade," "The Fifth Element," "Spawn," "Moonraker" and "Conspiracy Theory."

The company credits early entry into the DVD market for its success. "We started introducing DVD titles last March," said Peter Busch, Musicland's vice president of video. "The fact that our customer base embraces new technologies and are avid movie collectors has led to continued success in the DVD category."

Based in Minneapolis, Musicland Stores Corporation is the leading specialty retailer of prerecorded home-entertainment products in the United States. As of December 31, 1997, the company operated 1,363 retail stores in 49 states, the United Kingdom, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands under the names Media Play, On Cue, Suncoast Motion Picture Company and Sam Goody/Musicland.

Puts a little more fuel on the takeover speculation. C-Cube
and Divicom might be a good fit and allow for a foothold in the
valley.
