Rockhead and All: Re: Rocky Rides the Bull in NYC:
This past Monday, I was in New York walking through the Wall Street area
and came upon the famous sculpture of a bronze bull as I rounded a corner.
To my utter surprise, there riding the head of this great beast was our own
Iomega clown, Rocky Reid, who was apparently butt naked. Well actually
that isn't quite true because he was adorned with a variety of Iomega products
that could be mistaken for an outfit. On his back a Jaz2 drive was affixed
and it was connected to some small speakers and stuff on his head that was
blasting out the Iomega song... "Zippity Do Da, Zippity Day, My o' my
what a wonderful day!". And around his waist was a Buz cable with the
multipronged unit dangling down his back covering his crack. In the front,
a dark Zip disk was taped to the cable by two corners and this little 3.5 inch
square was quite effective in covering his privates which were nowhere
to be seen. Apparently, his modesty also extended to his upper body as a
thin black Zip drive power cord was tied around his chest, and this was
festooned with two tiny 2" by 2" Clik disks that were exactly positioned
to cover the nipples on his chest. All in all it reminded me of an image
of Trufflette in black lace undies, except Rocky wasn't half as cute and
certainly bizarre in his strange outfit. (I recognized him from his Harrison
Ford look-alike picture.) Too bad I forgot my camera!!
...About a half block away a CNBC reporter Alan Chernoff, was doing
a stand up with a TV cameraman in front of the stock exchange, and he
noticed Rocky in his wild getup and they came over with the camera crew
to see what was happening. Chernoff, tried to question Rocky as to why
he was riding the bull in that outfit of Iomega parts and products, but he was
unable to get Rocky to stop singing and flogging himself with two SCSI Zip
cables he was swinging in his right hand. Gradually a crowd built up around
this spectacle as it was just after 4 PM and brokers were streaming out of
their offices. It turned out to be quite a circus.
...By the way Rocky was so full of himself with the goings on and the big
crowd that I was unable to introduce myself. And when I saw the police cars
coming I decided not to stick around and walked on.
...Could anybody please tell me if this incident made the CNBC news?
Because he was pretty naked, they may have kept it off the prime time news
or just cut it for other reasons. But it may have aired as filler for the late night
broadcast. Please let me know. Thanks.
