CPQ Block 663,000 shrs. at 29.
Compaq Wed. launched an $850 desktop personal computer, designed for price-sensitive commercial customers in emerging markets. The launch is part of the group's efforts to expand its market share in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Compaq Deskpro 100 series marks the entry of Compaq, the world's top PC supplier, into Asia's below-$1000 commercial desktop market, the group said.

Paul Blinkhorn, director of PC products group at Compaq Computer Asia/Pacific Ltd. said that the product will increase Compaq's market share in Asia.
"We're talking large volumes," said Blinkhorn, who declined to give any specific sales targets.
"It will bring a very positive impact on our market share," he said. "Last year, Compaq had a 7.5% market share for desktop PCs in Asia excluding China, Taiwan, Hong Kong & Japan," he said.
"I'd like Compaq to be a double-digit market player," Blinkhorn said.
Compaq was amoung the first to introduce sub-$1000 machines in the U.S. In Feb. 97', the company introduced a $999 model, and then , in June, a $799 machine. It upgraded its $999 offering with the Presario 4504, which has a fast 200-megahertz Pentium a big hard drive, a high -speed CD-ROM drive and a telephone modem.
