The correct analogy is to TV shows at which you spend time versus those you don't spend time at.
If the TV were like the web and you were flipping channels between stations and you skipped past the yhoo channel 10 times, the yahoo channel would get 10 hits. If you now went to the cnn channel and spent 30 minutes there, the CNN channel gets one hit.
Now will you not spend more for an ad on the cnn channel ?

That's my browsing situation. I spend a lot of time at some select sites. I only go to Yahoo/Excite to get small bits of information and I bounche off them a lot. Now that in itself is not bad except that when I go there I am usually NOT browsing. I am looking for a specific piece of information.

Go back to the TV analogy. If you had to go to the TV guide channel 10 times in 2 hours and spent a total of 2 minutes there but spent 57 minutes on the NBC channel - I'd give more ad dollars to NBC.
What's more : given that NBC's audience demographics are determined by the content in those 58 minutes, my ads are likely to be that much more targeted. If you reduce it to this, then YHOO is in the content business (which their management realized a while ago - hence the emphasis on quote.yahoo.com, tv.yahoo.com etc etc) but suddenly they have a glut of competitors. While quote.yahoo.com is really good, it competes for ad dollars with SI and with thestreet.com and a million other sites.

OF COURSE, THIS STOCK IS ON STEROIDS AND ALL SUCH DISCUSSIONS OF FUNDAMENTAL ARE IRRELEVANT. I am not being faecetious here, I am a shell shocked short who'll soon be on welfare :-)
