Jimbo,
Re -- Just as I suspected...AMDs real reason for teaming up with IBM was to get technology. At 70% yields we knew that AMD didn't really need IBM for volume reasons. Keep loading up...100/share is right around the corner..

Agreed!! :-)). You may want to sell all your NSM and buy AMD. The crossover is near, while NSM is headed down AMD is headed up :-))

Obviously the street thinks that AMD has more potential than cyrix.

Thanks for your excellent post! I had a hunch that the IBM fab deal might mean more than just supply chain management, so it was good to see my own feelings reflected in print. I've been tracking some of the stories on copper's rise as a potential replacement for silicon, and have recently taken positions in SMTL, IPEC, and LRCX because the seemed likely to benefit.

Since my background is more biotech than tech, though, I'm curious to learn more about the technology and it's potential market. Is there any relationship to the copper issue and the slot 1 and 7 issue that I read about (with great confusion)? With the noise over Rambus DRAM and SDRAM opening up the speedway, will copper become more essential in the same time frame? Haven't there been rumblings somewhere about a K7 or K8 - will they feature copper? Lastly, does anyone on the thread have a view about the potential effect upon copper futures - would a lot of copper be used in the process, etc? The futures have already been moving in the past week, but I haven't really studied the supply/demand situation yet - any views? Thanks

Jim, re:<Cu from IBM>. The registration statement was pretty glum, but it did say that AMD would use copper technology on the K7 in 1999. Is this new news or a suspicion confirmed?
