Two points-
I think copper technology offers lower power consumption
and not better yield, per se. AMD hasn't demonstrated leadership in bringing new technology to market and copper could be another hurdle.

The real issue here is why Intel is down when box makers are booming!
Our office secretary wants a 300MHz Pentium II but none of us here can out-type an IBM XT,thus, the world begins to realize high profit processors are for finite element analysis and orbital mechanics and not for Doom or MS Word (status symbols aside). Who is supplying processors for these inexpensive computers? If it is Intel -then this explains their short fall - if it is NSM or AMD this also explains Intel's situation but to the benefit of Intel's competitors.
If AMD's yields are up, as you suggest, we are truly at the dawn of a new market.
