Bryan,

My guess is that Informix's price is very slow in recovering for a few reasons:

1. It takes a long time for big investors to get comfortable with a company after such a surprise in 1997.
2. Oracle and Microsoft are seen by many as too strong for Informix to overcome- Oracle at the high end and Microsoft at the low end.
3. A lot of people have bought in at low levels and profit taking slows progress out of the low price ranges.
4. Still not a lot of support from anal-ysts.

Having said that, I can't understand how Sybase remains fairly strong after such a poor run of results over the past few years. Especially since they are perhaps more vulnerable to Microsoft than Informix is.

I don't believe Microsoft/Oracle will stop Informix reaching good revenue levels- Oracle is concentrating in the ERP space and Microsoft is at low end. Informix has identified markets which are good potential earners where products can be differentiated.

I also believe that another qtr of growth will be the difference as it will convince a few more major anal-ysts that IFMX is back.

M.
