first of all an echocardiogram is not an ecg. an ecg is an electrocardiogram, costing about 50-75 buck plus interpretation.
an echo can cost on the order of 250 bucks or so.
my point was that the incidence of valvular disease with phen/fen is likely higher than reported and the scare is prompting a lot of unnecessary testing that will lead to further costs and likely litigation as some dufus doctors will say that valve damage from other causes (like RF, calcification, senile atrophy, etc) is due to phen fen.
redux, while most likely blameless, will get sucked down into the mud with phen/fen and companies associated with it will suffer.
