bearshark mentioned the Le Bon book way back in this thread, it's available on Project Gutenberg; sailor.gutenberg.org - you read some or all of it there, then decide you want a printed copy, it's that kind of book.

Le Bon has another book as well, 'The Psychology of Revolution'; sailor.gutenberg.org

MacKay's 'Popular Delusions' is there as well; sailor.gutenberg.org

Adam Smith's 'Wealth of Nations' is on Gutenberg, too, but here it is in a more searchable form; bibliomania.com

.... published in 1776, and still relevant, imho, as much as ever. My 30-year-old Britannica version, bought new, is now dog-eared, and I've never loaned it out -g-
