Joe - We don't need to beat this dead horse anymore. Since you know I have the "inside" track, let me explain exactly how grants work at AOL. You vest over x amount of years, the grants expire after xx amount of years. If you do not take any action, they will expire "worthless" - as in, you don't get squat. They may be worth something on paper, but who cares? No, you will not get a nice friendly tap on the shoulder, and no, you will not somehow get a big fat bonus on the paycheck - legally, AOL has no way to say exercise those options now.

AOL doesn't babysit the grants for every employee - and I doubt other tech companies do either.
