Overall, I think this article was very beneficial. It laid out in the open the risks and the cost of the deal. It also pointed out this this would not be an instant recovery and that further losses could be expected in 1998, in good part due to underpricing of this business. As I pointed out in prior posts, I was not sure if that had been reflected in the current market price. We now have our answer- with all the dirty laundry out, the stock really did not move today.

At this point, most holders of the stock are looking over the valley to what can be delivered in 1999.

One comment on cash flow. Cash flow was mentioned in the article. The real problem here is not so much cash flow (typical insurer or HMO has a portfolio of marketable securities), but maintaining an adequate level of statutory capital. Presumably the planned capital injections into the subs will forestall any problems.
