It might be a little bit late now. Dell Computer Corp (DELL - news) gave back most of the more than 7 points it gained Wednesday, tumbling about 5 to 133 in after-hours action.

Roger, My choice is DELL. However, be careful, a-priori short term trades have never worked for me. I would short if I am prepared to ride the bumps for a while. Also, I am never lucky trading at the open. If you must use a limit order. If this puppy opens under 120 the chance may be gone.

How about airline stocks. How much higher can they go, they kept going up as oil went down.

How do you see tomorrows action? Given all the dip buying, I'd say that frame of mind will continue. Dip buyers aren't going to give up on that strategy eaisly since it's worked so well the last couple years.

I see low open, drop for another 15 minutes as sell at markets are executed. Then the dip buyers start. Market will go up until 10:15 to 10:30, then the next wave of sellers come in to drive market down below the lows of 9:45.

Maybe a better strategy would be to put in some buys on several stocks before the open. These would be market orders for ~10% below todays close. They'd also be stocks which have corrected somewhat already. If the buy hits, I'd probably sell shortly after 10 for maybe a 5% overall gain.

Stocks I'm considering: ANAD or VLSI.

Am I nutso with this line of thinking?

BTW, I've got lots of puts. Are people covering at the open or waiting till Fridays job report?

Roger as a long time Dell holder, I must remind you of what happened last time Intel warned. May 31,1977 Dell opened up @ 99 down 10. It closed the day in positve territory Whether that will happen again who knows.. Just passing on the history for your thinking process. Also with the stock splitting Monday (close on Fri), there may be enough people thinking they are getting in at a reasonable price. As today showed there is demand (and short covering) if the perception is its going back up.

<< Let me hear your votes. >>

I vote for COMS. Even though I'm not short currently (to tough in this market) I still think it's a good short.

Roger, go for Gillette or KO - they are very bloated and are about to crack, IMHO.
