Deer Hunter Slams Quake II And Riven

PC Data has released its list of the top-selling games from January '98, and the results are a shocker: Deer Hunter--the game developed as a special SKU for Walmart stores--jumped eight positions to take the top spot over perennial favorites Myst, Microsoft Flight Sim, Riven and (gasp!), Quake II.

Deer Hunter's runaway success has caught many by surprise. The game first appeared in October, catapulting to the number eight spot that month, and hasn't dropped out of the top 10 since. Still strong, but falling slightly are Lego Island, Barbie Magic Hair Styler, and Tonka Construction.

New entrants to the list include Sierra's Pro Pilot (#11), Wing Commander Prophecy (#16), and Blizzard's Diablo, which reemerged at #13.
