Not to start yet another political debate on the thread, but I was sarcastic about the $5.15/hr minimum wage hike because I'm one of those people who feel that those lower down on the income bracket (particularly full-time workers supporting families) ought to be earning at least a couple bucks more than the current minimum wage. A 48-hour work week earning a mere $247, is hardly sufficient to cover rent, utilities, transportation/insurance, medical, food, and clothing expenses. There is likely not a penny to spare in order to pursue an education (with or without financial aid) to obtain the skills for entry into a field with advancement opps. Throw a couple kids in the mix, etc. As for businesses complaining about the impact on their cost of operations...let's try shaving some of those corporate bonuses and severance packages a wee bit. A $4M check for CEO Joe Shmoe of McWendy's fast food chain, rather than $6.5M, might be reasonable in the interest of improving the lives of lower-income families. Of course, there should be some distinction made between corporate businesses and small "mom+pop" ones. (uh-oh...I think I just sparked another pending debate here) Style Pts.
