Lucent Technologies Announces Vantage DSPM, an
OEM Breakthrough Technology for Powerful Computer
Telephony Solutions

Cost-effective "in-skins" module offers full-featured digital signal
processing capabilities

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 1998-- Lucent Technologies today
announced the availability of Vantage(tm) DSPM, a cost-effective, ''in-skins'' voice and
fax processing technology for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Lucent's Vantage DSPM module has a form factor slightly larger than a credit card and
conveniently combines with a single-board computer (SBC) to provide a complete
PC-based platform in a compact package. The SBC is a custom designed to insert in
the backplane of key systems and PBXs.

The DSPM module offers state-of-the-art Digital Signal Processor (DSP) capabilities of
the Lucent Vantage Series platforms, including high-performance fax algorithms
which enable fully featured unified messaging (UM), information on demand (IOD) and
other Computer Telephony applications. Each DSPM module provides up to four
channels, expandable up to 16 channels per SBC.

The DSPM module should reduce overall costs for OEMs and distributors by
eliminating the need for redundant analog interface on the voice and fax processing
component and utilizing the interface that is available in the PBX. It also provides a
more reliable and easier distribution channel for field deployment by reducing points
of failure and allowing tightly integrated solutions.

''Lucent Technologies Computer Telephony Products is leading the trend toward
PC-based, entry-level computer telephony applications and delivering powerful new
capabilities to switches, such as messaging and fax at affordable prices,'' said Kenneth
Lavine, president and CEO of the Lucent Technologies Computer Telephony Products
unit.

The Vantage DSPM offers digital integration through the backplane, allowing
advanced features typically associated with larger, more expensive systems. The
resulting solutions provide faster response to market with shorter time to
implementation, and higher reliability.

''Lucent has shown me they have both a high quality product and excellent
engineering resources,'' stated Ram Metser, president of Telekol Corporation. ''This is
why we are partnering with them to provide innovative CTI solutions. We are excited
about the first project between our companies where we are using Lucent's Vantage
DSPM to provide specific components as a part of our OEM contract with a major
worldwide manufacturer of telephone systems.''

Utilizing fifth-generation DSP technology, the Vantage Series is a state-of-the-art,
highly scaleable (4 to 32 ports per board) voice and fax processing platform, perfect for
peak-performance solutions. The versatility of the Vantage series allows developers to
build robust applications on a variety of platforms including Windows NT, Windows 95,
Solaris, QNX, SCO OpenServer, SCO UnixWare, OS/2 and DOS. Enhanced voice, fax,
and rotary Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms expand opportunities for CT
applications in the global markets.

I just talked with IR-- earnings will be announced on either the 10th or the 11th after the market closes. This was moved back from the original date of the 5th that I was given. As to the reason, the woman I talked to said that she was not told of any. There will also NOT be a conference call this time around-- something quite unusual, considering they have one after every quarterly announcement. Something strange is up-- good or bad, I do not know.
