You're right. Intel priced to drive its competition down. The problem
with that approach was that they had NO COMPETETION! AMD was its
own competition. So, what INTC did was increase profits for
the boxmakers rather than its own shareholders. The price cuts that
were intorduced over the past few months were completely unnecessary.

Intel may have a bunch of tech sense but they need to send their business
people back to school. This company had the greatest potential
out of all of the high tech companies out there. As it stands now, INTC
earned 6.7% for its sharehoders in 1997 and 1998 looks like it is going to
be a repeat performance. This is a long term problem and their approach
is unforgiveable..

Most traders have been out of INTC for some time. Only the day traders have stayed. All the rest were investors or will become investors today. I guess all the "soon to be" investors never heard of ORCL last Oct or thought INTC was immune. I told Sonny a few weeks ago I had bailed all my INTC and put that into cash as it was felt a pull back was required if new highs were going to be seen and sustained. INTC will be back as Frank has said. ORCL is going to be back also. Had IR given a prewarning it may have dropped a little and most investors would have bought on that dip--- the earnings were not there. The only concern for those looking for the fast buck now should be, when will earnings be back to historical levels?--- the question for traders is a little different...The question for everyone is "should I have seen this" and "does it make any difference to long range goals." Techs are volatile and INTC really is a tech for those that forgot... if it is too much to bear stay out of the sector. It has not been that long ago that 70 looked like a bargain and will again! Now,,, how low will it go????? Patience really is a virtue when INVESTING in techs.

Based upon your posts over the past year or so, I have come to respect your posts and level-headedness. I have assumed that you are a very mature investor. I would like to e-mail you concerning legal action regarding the timing of INTC's and CPQ's dissemination of news as well as CPQ's fraudulent means of increasing its share value in order to effectuate its purchase of DEC. If you are interested, please let me know. I would like to bounce my theory off someone but do not wish to post such since both INTC and CPQ personnel monitor SI.
