What many investors are coming to realize is that the Y2K problems, including the embedded problems, will also make networks more vulnerable to security hackers. As the systems fail, it is possible that if only the servers or main frames are the ones keeping the security integrity, the rest of the system becomes very vulnerable as it comes up without the computer(s) that was (were) doing the security work. I believe that a lot of money will also be spent on improving network total security. IBD's group ranking now stands at 27 out of 197. It was 34 11 days ago.

Re: Congressman Horn 180 degree shift (conspiracy!) rumors...

I believe this is all baseless speculation.

Let's keep to the straight facts please. It does not do us any good for our credibility to focus on the conspiracy stuff :-)

What appears to be the full story on this, from comp.software.year-2000, is below:

Everyone,
I regret that private comments meant for limited distribution has been widely
disseminated. It has unintentionally caused a firestorm of controversy and rumor.
My comments were based on third party information, speculation and subjective
interpretation, only.
Congressman Horn was one of the first to speak out about the year 2000
problem, and he continues working to keep the pressure on. ABC has expended a
great deal of effort to investigate the year 2000 problem in depth, and not give
it the customary surface treatment. They are to be commended.
My comments were ill considered and the correct information was distributed
with the help of Tony Keyes and Jim Lord. I apologize for the awkward situation
both ABC and Congressman Horn have found themselves in.
In the future, please disregards any statements attributed to me or The
Cassandra Project unless we ourselves have posted them. Please don't post any
comments or statements we may have made without our permission.

Paloma,

I apologize for sharing your private message on the open Forum.

Since you indicated that you were planning to share the information on your
web site I mistakenly believed that you did not want to keep it private.

I feel badly if this has caused you any personal trauma to you and hope
that it will in no way diminish your effectiveness.

If there is anythng good about this, it may be the firestorm you refer to.

If there is anything good that comes out of this, perhaps it is a Y2K
firestorm that is long overdue, but I'm getting the sinking feeling that
ABC may elect to suppress the Y2k sequence to our detriment.

What can I do to make amends?

Harlan

As well you should. This is not the first time you've pulled this stunt
either. You're either braindead or a complete asshole.

I think mail to Mr. Smith should be considered 'public' from this point
forward. I am sorry I didn't make this point earlier when my mail was
posted.

ABC News special report online: Millennium Bugged

abcnews.com

Two little digits could cause some very big problems for you
when the century turns over. In fact, thanks to the computer
age, the Millennium Bug could affect just about every aspect of
your life.

Looks like the first major story on Y2K by ABC/CBS/NBC.
