The game now is quite different, IMO. The public (Joe 6-pack)
probably represents around 50% of the market - businesses are
also looking for lower prices (if indeed they want to upgrade
for a 30-40% increase in speed). The Merced is probably going to
represent a small proportion of overall revenue for some time.

If you agree to the above - you will also agree that the "market"
for CPUs has become a lot more price-conscious and will likely
continue to do so.

Is that not a long-term situation? And won't this get worse with time?

On the positive side - no one can design and produce "consumer" CPUs like Intel.

IMO if costs are brought down some - the stock can be awarded
the value it deserves.
