Richard, you know I will be the last to say it is impossible (after all, my motto is: "I am too stupid to know it cannot be done" <VBG>). Yet, the basic law of conservation of matter plus energy is inviolable. You take some 15 to 20 lbs of U(235) and when you somehow get it all together nice and compact it splits to a variety of lower atomic number elements with a release equivalent to about 100 kiloton of dynamite. When you take the process in the other direction this is roughly the amount of energy you'll have to put into the process to make it "go". Zeev
