To All FTELers, just got in from the Computer Telephony Expo and only have a couple minutes to post some of what I observed. My primary mission was to talk on as many DVG gateways as possible, so as to compare the voice quality and ease of use to the Tempest. I was able to talk on four such devices; VocalTek, Clarient, Intertel and Magnavox, as well as the Tempest. The only one that even came close to the Tempest's voice quality was Intertel's system, but even still that was not toll quality. I talked on VocalTeck's system on three different occasions during the day and each time the break-up in the speech quality made it almost unusable. I can't believe that they even try to sell the technology. Clarient was slightly better than VocalTek although you knew that you were talking on the internet because your did not sound natural. My secretary described the call as a poor cell phone connection. I have use Magnavox's system before but tried theirs also which sounded pretty good, only to find out later that the call was an Eithernet (sp?) call rather than a internet call. I also made two calls on the Tempest and each one was as clear and natural as a regular phone call from your home or office. I even tried to talk fast and at the same time as the person I was talking to, in order to cause the voice to break, and I was not able to effect the voice quality. The long and short of it is the Tempest is the best. Nothing that I heard was of the same quality. None had the ability to adjust the latency or volume. Have to go for now. I'll post some more tomorrow. Oh one other thing, the Franklin booth is outstanding; very professional with great eye appeal. Also well manned with Neil and Paul. Later, Bill
