Again..great post!...I have been reading about China's problems for
a while now..wonder if they might start using a lot of natural resources to build up proposed infrastructure..
Intel's reporting weakness globally across all segments..I found
fascinating..would have thought that a lot of corporations would
be buying new equipment to circumvent the year2000 bug since there is such a shortage in programmers for remediation..A friend told
me yesterday that he just received a call asking if he would work
on a ) project for Year2000..he hasn't worked on the application since 1989..he said they are desperate..he also said mentioned a big company(forgot the name) asking their senior tech
people not to retire and to take bonuses because of Year2000...
another friend told me his brother at a huge financial company was
also getting a big bonus for not taking retirement..again in the
tech department so I am assuming this is quite prevalent since my
sources are limited..
Windows 98 is coming out shortly so I thought that would spur further
demand in tech field..however, I guess I have to remember that a lot
of corporations don't like adding new operating systems until the
glitches have been worked out..
Why am I writing this?
First of all, thanks to a great person who is making examine where
my thinking may be off, corporate America might not be that competent
and we might be giving a lot of credit where no credit is due..
Next with Intel's latest announcement and I think First Call's (please
check me on this) reporting that corporate profits have realllllly
slowed now..the market is in for a very big correction..with tech
no longer providing the leadership for the marketplace..
(however, as you know a lot more than I know, corporations are providing equipment on a much shorter term schedule which adds stress
to the workers who have to produce goods on short term notice..so
maybe part of Intel's announcement should be discounted since the
sector could perk up at any second..
Hopefully this all will add fuel to natural resource sector which appears to be one of the few sectors that is undervalued...
The global part of Intel's announcement could prove very very interesting!
(ps spent hours and hours on my computer yesterday and day before
trying to fix it after it crashed on..really scarey..spent almost
two hours on phone with Gateway..they had me do all shorts of things
and made all sorts of suggestions and couldn't help me..finally fixed
it myself..just suggested to me that all these people with computers
who haven't worked in the field..and all the "support" out there who
are quite limited..another example..when I installed Windows 95 and
couldn't get some of my accessories to work..called Microsoft..their
advise proceeded to blow out my cmos..and then I was told I needed a
new computer...called Gateway and a kind rep had me reset cmos in three minutes and system up and running...called another tech support
when having ISP problems..three different people gave me incredible
advise that had nothing to do with the problem...blah blah blah..
I think I might be venting a bit but more to the point..this tech age
is incredibly wonderful..but once there is a problem..beware the Ides
of March and all other days of the week...off to walk the dogs
