STATE COLLEGE, Pa., March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- C-COR Electronics, Inc.(R) (NASDAQ:CCBL) has entered into a definitive agreement with Lucent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:LU) for advanced headend AM fiber optic technology. Headend technology transmits analog and digital signals over hybrid fiber coax (HFC) networks used by cable television operators to deliver voice, video, and data services to their customers. The license includes rights to use recent, and not-yet-marketed, engineering developments of the Lucent Linear Lightwave(R) Systems headend product line. Through technology transfer agreements, C-COR will be entitled to perform final design enhancements to manufacture the optical transmission products and launch them to the global market. As part of the agreement, C-COR will provide warranty and service to current Linear Lightwave(R) Systems customers. Assumption of the service commitment will begin immediately. Scott C. Chandler, President and CEO for C-COR Electronics, Inc., commented on the agreement. "This transaction is consistent with our strategy to aggressively expand our HFC transmission products. Lucent's state-of-the- art technology will allow us to be extremely competitive by complementing our recently announced Navicor(TM) AM fiber optic product line. This agreement positions C-COR to be a leader in offering customers a complete solution from headend to the last active device in the network, not only to meet customers' needs today but to cost-effectively scale the network as bandwidth demands evolve." "Building on Lucent's advanced technology, C-COR will complete the development of the headend products and launch them to the market. The new technology will build on our Navicor product line, which already includes a series of new and upgraded fiber optic nodes and network management system. The modularity of the family is designed to leverage our existing RF amplifier product platforms and allows cable operators to improve the capacity of their systems and to add high-value services when the CATV market demands. The result is a flexible, scalable, cost-effective means of network planning," said Gerhard Nederlof, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Business Development of C-COR Electronics. "C-COR has a strong reputation for quality in the HFC equipment arena. That reputation has been earned by being a player in the broadband market for 45 years and by standing behind the products they produce and service. C-COR will provide this high level of service to our existing customers," said H. D. (Bud) Dowdy, Jr., Product Manager, Video Distribution Systems of Lucent Technologies Inc.
