Justice Dept. May Broaden Case Against Microsoft
Washington Post - Thursday, March 5, 1998

The Justice Department is strongly considering filing a broader
antitrust case against Microsoft Corp. that would challenge Windows
98, its next-generation personal computer operating system, according
to sources familiar with the case.

Although officials within Justice's antitrust division are leaning
toward the broader action, the sources said the department eventually
could scuttle those plans if its lawyers cannot assemble enough
evidence in time to mount a convincing case. Microsoft has said
that it plans to starting shipping Windows 98 in late spring;
department officials would like to file a case before then.
