Texas Instruments (TXN-Strong Buy-$54) 3/05/98
Investor Suitability: Aggressive Growth (from Gruntal)
TXN held a presentation on its DSP (Digital Signal Processor) business yesterday and will hold its annual analyst meeting tomorrow morning. The DSP presentation was outstanding as it focused on emerging markets and applications for DSPs that offer powerful growth opportunities. TXN management indicated that demand for DSPs remains strong while DRAM prices are weak but no weaker than earlier figures. Additionally, TXN announced that Acer would purchase its portion of the TI-Acer joint venture. TI-Acer accounts for 20% of TXN's DRAM volume. TI-Acer is one of the least profitable joint ventures and TXN expects to recover its original investment in this venture. Management indicated that 1Q98 remains on track and we are maintaining our estimates and Strong Buy rating on TXN stock. Our 12-month price target is $75. We expect TXN stock to suffer with the rest of the technology group in reaction to Intel's (INTC-Hold-$86 7/16) pre-announcement last night. We would be buyers of TXN stock on any weakness for aggressive growth investors.

Hey Pat,

Thanks. I particularly liked this phrase...
" Nine out of ten high-density hard disk drives, one of every two digital cellular phones and one of three modems produced today utilize TI digital signal processing technology. TI is also putting emphasis on mass and emerging markets for additional growth in the future. "

Looks like DSP dominance to me. :-) Oh, and I wouldn't be investing in TXN unless you did know at least part of the future. ;-)

all imho
