Developer/2000 Release 2.0 has just shipped, Release 2.1 is finishing its beta cycle and Release 3.0 is just going to beta test. Don't discount Oracle's tool business. They are on the right track and things are just going to get better.

Try and get an evaluation copy of Developer/2000 from ORCL. From what I have heard they will not allow this (with a few exceptions) since it is recognized that the learning curve is steep. This problem must be resolved in order to build sales momentum. Very few will pony up the cash for tools that have been evaluated strictly by reading marketing material, white papers, and sitting through a few demonstrations.

I am not sure about the tools business but Oracle of late has scraped a lot of products especially in their server technologies group, moved around a lot of people in these groups. Even the employees did not sound very optimistic about the company which is a very different tune from about 6 months ago. I suppose this can also be attributed to the fact that oracle shares have taken a big hit and most of the people I spoke to seems to have a whole lot of oracle in their 401k.

Lets not get too optimistic about oracle unless in can get in atleast a couple of quarters of good results. Almost sure they would do it this time as L.E. has too much at stake.

Long on oracle.
