What interests me about the Intel shortfall is that it sounds like the revenue losses were largely caused by competition at the low end. If that is indeed so, then it isn't necessarily a bad indicator for the market as a whole. Actually, a gradual loosening of Intel's stranglehold on the core chip business would be a good thing for the long haul. No, I am not entirely certain of this; I just remember a few pieces of their press release which stuck in my mind.

I am really curious as to why Intel's famed guidance system failed this time. They must have known this was possible and they could have gently guided the analysts to the real numbers.....
