Research Alert - Day Traders On-line Starts Compaq Computer As Buy

BusinessWire, Thursday, March 05, 1998 at 13:50

MONTEREY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 5, 1998--DAY TRADERS ON-LINE (www.daytraders.com) said Thursday it initiated coverage of Compaq Computer (NYSE:CPQ) with medium term buy rating and set a 6-12 month price target of $40 a share.

-- Stock attractively valued at current levels when compared to potential revenue increases through 1999 and 2000.

-- Company well positioned to take advantage of lower CPU prices as well as the introduction of Intel's new 64 bit Merced chip, expected later next year.

-- Expansion into sub $1000 PC market while maintaining strong presence in Internet server market seen as a positive for future growth.

-- Company expected to combine strong name brand recognition with new "build to order" distribution model as successfully used by other companies such as Dell (NASDAQ:DELL) and Gateway 2000 (NYSE:GTW).

-- Chart appears to have technical support around $25 to $27 levels.

-- Near term price target set at $30, 6-12 month target set at $40 plus.

We would consider any weakness into the $25 to $27 or less range (if seen) as a buying opportunity for those willing to hold 6 to 12 months or more. For further information on this and other short to medium term trading and investing ideas, please visit the company's
