rd, i gave this info before - but i do know it is hard to keep up with all the posts going back. here is a synopsis.

1. oversupply of boxes is on the market and more supply is coming. dell and cpq, the market leaders, must grow units by nearly 50%, yty, to keep their stock prices intact. hwp and ibm also have to grow very fast. the market is growing at 10-15%. someone is going to lose. i think it is gtw. muei doesn't count as mu will shaft them in order to save a couple kibbles and bits for themselves.

2. i think that gtw has the weakest marketing and management of all the big players. notice the recent loss while everyone else was making money. notice last q, which everyone loved - it did beat a loss ;-) - they only grew 5%, yty. these kinds of low expectations don't last forever. they can last a long time, but not forever.

3. i never vote for management that misleads investors. "in like a lamb and out like alion" was a great laugh. too bad it wasn't accurate.

4. intel was boound to slow and pressure everyone (except mu, of course ;-)

5. y2k investments will have to be pulled from somewhere. my vote is out of it budgets that leave less room for box purchases.

6. general demand growth for boxes is slowing. the fastest growing segment is the sub $1k (sub $800 now?) market. this doesn't bode well for anybody. least of all those who don't have world class manufacturing ability and inventory control. i don't believe gtw does. how much are they saving now to right down as a one time charge in a future q?

that's my view and i'm sticking with it ;-) until some evidence changes my mind. just like apple making money last q. i changed my short term outlook on gtw after that.

Mr. B in a mania like the current one even the most dire warnings are ignored by the herd in spite of overwhelming evidence of a steady deterioration in the fundamentals. Mike
