Let's say, you want to italicize a phrase, start the italization by preceding the phrase with the "speacial" characters <,i and>. And when you want to end it type the "special" characters, <./i, and> (without any spaces or commas) Like so:

italicized phrase <i/>

For bold, it is the same way, except you use the letter "b" instead of "i". Like so:

bold phrase
