re: < a single reason to buy this stock>

The only reason I can come up with, at least short term, is that
VLSI has a habit of beating expectations when they are low..
.., also missing them when they're high, but that is not the case
right now.

I covered my short @ 19.25, oh well. But I'm having a real hard time
convincing myself to go long.

It seems plain bizarre to me that we were at 19 twice this year
BEFORE the bad news, but now with '98 and '99 estimates
coming down we're holding quite solid right around 18.5 to 19.

go figure...

When I talked with the guy at VLSI he said nothing about anything
past these next two quarters, yet estimates are coming down for
1999. What's up with that?

I might get some, 'just in case', but I'd get a lot more below 17.
VLSI is a fast and nimble company with so many different products
I think there is 0 fear that they'll just go away...., but I have
experienced a ride from ~19 to below 12 (mid '96) and while it worked
out well, 12 was way white knuckled.

Enough has happened since then that I think we should'nt go any
lower than 14-15, but I think the whole market will need to be in the
toilet for that to happen.

cheers,
-Kevin
