Re: Falling ASP

You said:
Like it or not, the average sales price of PCs is supposed to be dropping, not just for consumers, but for corporations as well.

And sales prices will CONTINUE to fall unless buyers have a good REASON to buy expensive machines.

I challenge you all to come up with a good REASON.

The fact is, software has fallen behind hardware. But this state won't last forever; the next software killer app will come, and ASPs will go up again.

As far as storage demand goes, I still maintain that higher Net bandwidths, DVD penetration, and Win98 will revive HDDs. Just not quite yet.

God bless,

So, what now? This morning, I was tempted to play Mighty Mouse and short such tempting morsels like AMZN, AOL, DELL, etc., etc. After all, the February rally was ridiculous. Market hitting new highs as though Asia won't affect corporate profitability? Bonds inching back up beyond 6% as though inflation was a real threat? What planet are these Alfred E. Newman folks on? Anyway, the dam has broke, so let's be a hero and rachet down these absurd valuations, 50-100 PEs... phooey...

Uh, yeah. Then I shorted AAPL at 23 15/16 instead.
