I don't feel comfortable with CFO's statement. He made me feel that he is withholding information. Particularly, after the channel stuffing in 4Q, I believe to cook the book for DEC merger. Remember 3COM and US Robotics story and their channel stuffing?

A little humor is in order. I also own Intel. The art is good!

Loki....You were wondering about Mason not having # and such at the ML conference. He does have a "feel" for Feb. # but is smart enough to keep quiet. The real tip off in what he said is "March is backend loaded". When that was said it was not said in a way of hope. He knows damn good and well the # are there.

Loki, even though Mason was a bit vague, he did not appear to be trying to mislead anyone. In all fairness to him, it would be foolhardy for him to state that the earnings picture was going to be positive or negative with 2/3 of the earning period not yet in. He said the best thing an honest CFO can say under those circumstances. He said he was comfortable with the earnings data he had to date, and stated the obvious, which is that the competition is tougher than expected. Since he is not God, he cannot foretell what the full picture will be until most of the data are in. The shorts are obviously deeply worried that CPQ will meet their numbers, so it is natural for them to read SHORTFALL into any news they view or hear.

re: Any CFO must have information

If he didn't have the numbers he wouldn't be
doing his job.
If the CFO doesn't have up to date numbers than
IMO he shouldn't be in the job he's in.
